Board Meeting Update

The board has decided that the 2012 Membership Booklet will be sent via email to all those members that currently receive the newsletter via email.  The decision has been made as a cost saving measure based on the large percentage of our annual income that the printing of the booklet represents.  Those members that receive a paper copy of the newsletter in the mail will receive a paper copy of the 2012 Membership Booklet.  However, in order to save postage, the paper copies will be available at the meetings through the month of March.  After the March meetings, any remaining copies will be mailed.

Service Project – Child’s Sampler Canvas

Thank you to Marlene D., Bev F., and Jean N., for co-chairing this service project.  The Amplatz Children’s Hospital on Riverside Ave has been contacted and we are waiting to hear back from them on the acceptance of our donation.

We are starting to take sign-ups from those members that wish to stitch on the project.  We are hoping that many members will stitch on it since it offers a variety of areas from the simplistic to more complicated sections.  If you will not be at a meeting in January or February and wish to participate please contact Marlene D. or Bev F. so that we can add you to the list.  Members will have 1-2 weeks to complete their section.  You may designate what season you would like to stitch your section or if flexible, you will be assigned a time.

Members are asked to donate the threads that they use on the section that they stitch, with the exception of the border and large background sections.  The threads for these areas will be purchased by the chapter and given to the stitcher to use.  When completed, the chapter will also pay for the framing.

Marlene, Bev and Jean are available to provide assistance on stitches and types of threads to use.  The canvas is 13 count so requires a thicker fiber.  #3 pearl cotton is an example of a fiber weight that will provide good coverage.

Coming Attractions in GCC

“The Golden Phoenix” by Dorothy Lesher has been selected and will be started in February of 2012.  GCC meetings will most likely be held on the Saturday Group meeting days (specific dates and times TBD). The details of this project are in the 2010-2012 Education Catalog on page 17, or http://www.needlepoint.org/CorrClasses/classes/phoenix.php.

We are planning to start another GCC at the 2012 ANG weekend and if you have any preferences for our choice of the class, please contact Jo Ann K.
